CHENGDU (China) – World No.1 Novi Sad (SRB) won their first Masters of the season after comfortably beating Riga Ghetto (LAT) 21-14 in the final at the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Chengdu Masters on June 2, 2019.
Novi Sad dominated last season’s World Tour but their incredible 35-game winning streak was snapped by Liman in the semi-finals at the Doha Masters in April. But the Serbian powerhouse proved why they are the world’s best by bouncing back in Chengdu to claim the USD 30,000 cheque.
Novi Sad brought their A-game in the final with Dejan Majstorovic continuing his hot form with a game-high 8 points. The event MVP was well supported by Tamas Ivosev, who controlled the paint to finish with 6 points.
It was heartbreak for Riga who were attempting to win their second straight Masters after a memorable triumph in Doha.
In the individual contests, Steve Sir (Edmonton, CAN) not only won the shoot-out, he set a new all-time record with 17 points out of a possible 21. The Canadian sharpshooter cashed in a $5000 cheque for setting the new benchmark, while Australian Brodie Stephens claimed the dunk contest over local favorite Yixun Zhang (CHN).
The 3rd Masters of the season will be played in Mexico City, Mexico on July 6-7, 2019.
